Here’s what happened on this day in New York Mets history: 1983: Rusty Staub records his eighth consecutive pinch hit in an 8-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Staub’s line drive single to rightfield off Ron Reed tied the single season major league record set by Dave Philley (1958).
